Introduction

Set along the tranquil shores of Johor’s southeastern coastline, the “Desaru by Nature” Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony marked the official transformation of the former Sirēya Desaru Coast into Mandarin Oriental, Desaru Coast. The event formally introduced the resort’s new chapter to key stakeholders, partners, and media, celebrating its integration into the Mandarin Oriental portfolio.

Surrounded by ancient rainforest and overlooking the South China Sea, the ceremony reflected the resort’s identity as a secluded sanctuary where nature and luxury coexist. Designed to highlight this sense of place, the event unfolded across the entrance, lobby, lawn, and iconic pool, welcoming around 60 distinguished guests for an afternoon of speeches, cultural performances, and symbolic rituals.

The Ceremony: A Symbolic Opening by Nature

The program began with welcome remarks from senior leadership, including:

At the heart of the ceremony was the ribbon-cutting moment itself. Instead of a traditional ribbon, the installation featured a floral garland composed of local tropical blooms, reflecting the destination’s natural beauty and cultural roots.

Cultural Performances: Blessings for a New Chapter

Following the ceremonial moment, guests were treated to a series of traditional performances celebrating the spirit of Johor and the region.

Lion Dance Procession
An energetic lion dance brought auspicious blessings of prosperity, success, and good fortune to the newly rebranded resort.

Johorian Traditional Dance
At the poolside, the Nyala Dance Theatre presented a graceful traditional performance inspired by Johor’s cultural heritage.
