Riviera Events supported The Shanghai EDITION’s Christmas Lighting Ceremony, an immersive evening combining art, celebration, and seasonal storytelling. With custom programming across the hotel’s Lobby and Penthouse, the event featured a lighting countdown, curated speeches, dinner, and art-led activity, Riviera’s event planning team in China ensured seamless execution across both phases, delivering thoughtful transitions and elevated experiences. 

Introduction

As the holiday season swept into Shanghai, Riviera Events had the privilege of supporting The Shanghai EDITION in delivering an intimate and art-forward Christmas Lighting Ceremony – an evening that marked not just the beginning of the festive season, but also the launch of a collaborative design exhibition: “City in Modules” by Polish artist Marcin Glod, in partnership with USM Modular Furniture and the hotel. 

Taking place across two distinct settings – the grand Lobby and the private Penthouse – the event was designed to surprise and delight across each phase of the evening. 

From a coordinated lighting countdown and curated speeches to an immersive dinner experience that included live DJ music and interactive puzzle art, Riviera’s event planning team in Shanghai provided everything from event production through to minute-by-minute flow design and on-site show management, creating a seamless journey that brought together VIP guests, brand collaborators, and creative minds. 

Highlights of the Night 

Lobby Ceremony: Lighting & Speeches 

• Guests gathered in the EDITION’s atmospheric lobby, where a synchronized countdown ended with the dramatic illumination of the Christmas installation, accompanied by background lights and chandeliers flickering to life. 

• Speakers from The Shanghai EDITION, W Hotels, USM, and Marcin Glod offered insights into the collaboration and the spirit behind the design. 

Penthouse Dinner: Puzzle, Pairings & Conversation 

• Riviera oversaw a smooth guest transition from the lobby to the Penthouse, where a carefully timed dinner program unfolded. 

• VIPs enjoyed a thoughtfully paced experience featuring: 

• Wine pairings and menu presentations 

• A group puzzle interaction, with each puzzle piece uniquely hand-painted by the artist, doubling as a commemorative gift 

• A final group photo to capture the spirit of the evening
