Mandarin Oriental Qianmen, Beijing Grand Opening Gala Party

At the heart of Beijing’s historic Central Axis, the Mandarin Oriental Qianmen, Beijing opened its doors with a celebration that perfectly blended traditional heritage with modern luxury. Marking the inauguration of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group’s second property in China’s capital, the hotel is nestled amidst iconic landmarks such as The Forbidden City and The Temple of Heaven. Within the hotel’s enchanting courtyard, our Beijing event management team was honoured to support and facilitate the celebratory unveiling of the hotel.

The grand opening unfolded through two phased celebrations. First, a ribbon-cutting ceremony set the stage with traditional lion dances and the unveiling of a distinctive fan created by renowned artist Xu Bing. The celebrations continued with a grand opening gala party that weaved together the cultural heritage and modernity of the capital. Over 150 esteemed guests – including government officials, ambassadors, hotel group leaders, VIP clients and celebrities such as Vivienne Tam, Karen Mok, and Chen Kun – were enveloped in a celebration that mirrored Beijing’s unique charm.

The courtyard buzzed with traditional entertainers – including candied hawthorn sellers, opera performers, and Mahjong players – creating a lively atmosphere. An additional highlight of the evening was an elegant piano solo by Yuja Wang, a cherished Mandarin Oriental fan and newly welcomed member of the brand’s celebrated “I’m a Fan” campaign. Her performance perfectly bridged the evening’s blend of heritage and modernity, setting the stage for a spirited DJ set in the Tiao Bar, which added a vibrant, contemporary twist to the night.
